
At least 24 people were killed in two airstrikes by Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip over the past few hours.
One of the attacks hit the Fahmi Al-Jargawi school in Gaza City, which was serving as a shelter for hundreds of people who had fled the northern city of Beit Lahia, currently under an intense Israeli army offensive.
According to a spokesman for the Hamas-run Civil Defense in Gaza, the bodies of at least 20 victims, including children, were recovered from the school building, many of them severely burned after flames engulfed classrooms converted into residential areas.
According to local reports, Mohammad Al-Kasih, the head of investigations for Hamas police in northern Gaza, was among the victims, along with his wife and children.
Shortly before the attack on the school, another Israeli airstrike hit a home in central Gaza City, killing four more people, according to the Hamas-run health ministry.
