Israel admits for the first time that it killed the leader of Hamas, the

Israel's Defense Minister admitted that Israel killed Hamas leader Ismail Haniya last July in Tehran.

At the same time, Israel Katz directly threatened the leadership of Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen - who are continuing to threaten Israel with their attacks - to suffer the same fate.

"We will hit the strategic infrastructure of the Houthis and cripple their leadership, as we did with Haniya, Sinwar (Hamas ally) and Nasrallah (Hezbollah ally) in Tehran, Gaza and Lebanon," the Israeli Defense Minister said.

This is the first public admission that Israel is behind the killing of Haniya in the Iranian capital.

Haniyeh was killed in a building while standing in the Iranian capital in an attack widely attributed to Israel.

The 62-year-old was widely considered the overall leader of Hamas and played a key role in negotiations aimed at achieving a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

After his assassination, Hamas named Jahya Sinwar, one of the main architects of the October 7 attacks, as the group's leader.

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu revealed in a statement to the media that progress has been made towards reaching an agreement on a cease-fire in Gaza with Hamas, but did not give a clear deadline for when the fighting will end.
