The Israeli Air Force announced that it had destroyed a plane it said was used by Iran's former supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and other senior Iranian officials overnight. The attack took place at Mehrabad Airport in Tehran.
According to the Israeli military, the plane was used for domestic and international travel by senior Iranian leaders and for coordinating activities with Iran's allied countries and groups in the region.
Israeli military authorities said the aircraft also served to transport and coordinate military supplies.
In its statement, the military described the aircraft as a "strategic asset," adding that its destruction aims to weaken Iran's ability to coordinate actions with groups acting as its allies or proxies in the region.
