A Palestinian television reporter and 11 members of his family were killed Thursday in southern Gaza in an Israeli attack, a Palestinian Authority-run television network said.
Mohamad Abu Khattab reported live Thursday night from outside Gaza's Nasser Hospital. When he returned home thirty minutes later, he was killed, the network reported. The UAFA news agency also reported his death and that of his family.
Khattab's death sent shockwaves through his editorial office. Palestinian journalist Salman Al-Bashir's live broadcast brought tears to the eyes of the host in the studio.
" We can't take this anymore. We are exhausted, here we are victims and martyrs waiting for our death. We are dying one after another and no one cares about us or the disaster and the large-scale crime in Gaza," he said .
" With no international protection, no immunity to anything, this protective equipment does not protect us, and neither do the helmets ," continued Al Bashir as he removed his helmet and protective vest that read "PRESS".
Al-Bashir also said that Israel's weekly bombardment has become unbearable for Palestinians in Gaza.
" Live on air, we lose our souls one after the other, without a price, we become martyrs, we wait for our turn ," he said.
