US President Donald Trump, before departing for a state visit to the United Kingdom, spoke to reporters about achieving peace in Ukraine and his relationship with Putin.
Asked about the lack of progress in peace talks between Ukraine and Russia, Trump justified himself by saying that it takes two to tango, but according to him, the problem is that the two main people, Putin-Zelensky) hate each other.
“It takes two people to tango. There are two people, Zelensky and Putin, who hate each other, and it seems like I have to sit in a room with them, because they can’t sit in a room together. There’s a lot of hatred there ,” he said,
He then defended his Alaska summit with Putin, claiming without offering any evidence to support this: “ That meeting accomplished a lot.”
He further added that to reach an agreement in Ukraine, Zelensky will have to start working and make a deal, while emphasizing that Europe must immediately stop buying oil from Russia.
" He's going to have to make a deal; Zelensky is going to have to make a deal and Europe has to stop buying oil from Russia. Okay? You know, they talk, but they have to stop buying oil from Russia. It's not fair to us. They're buying Russian oil and we have to do something ," Trump added.
Then he argues that the US is making money, since they are buying everything from the US; unlike Biden, who donated $350 billion, we actually make money.
" But I don't want to make money. You know what I want? I want that war to stop, " he said.
Later, answering a question from a Ukrainian journalist, Trump added that he "loves Ukraine" but acknowledged that "it is in serious trouble."
"It should never have happened. It's a war that should never have happened. The country is in very serious trouble. But I will stop it ," he said.
He further added that in the last eight months he has stopped seven wars, while admitting that he had thought it would be easier to achieve peace in Ukraine.
" I've stopped seven wars in the last eight months. I thought this would have been easier, because I know Putin, but it's not, because there is incredible hatred between Zelensky... and Putin, but we will stop it ," he concluded.
