Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has refused to hand over the territory of Donbas to Putin in exchange for a cessation of the offensive along the front line.
This was reported by the international news agency Reuters, citing yesterday's conversation between the Ukrainian leader and US President Donald Trump after his meeting with Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin in Alaska.
"The Russian leader proposed freezing most of the front lines if Kiev troops leave the entire Donetsk region. Zelensky rejected this request," the article said.
As previously reported, Vladimir Putin told Donald Trump that he would end the war if Ukraine handed over the Donetsk region to Russia.
The Russian president has said he will make unspecified territorial concessions to Kiev in exchange for control of the mineral-rich eastern region.
According to reports, these concessions could be made for small pieces of Russian-controlled land in Sumy and Kharkiv, while the fronts in southern Ukraine would remain as they are.
