American President Joe Biden and his successor in office, at the same time the Republican candidate for the 2024 Presidential elections, Donald Trump, will have a televised confrontation, although it was rumored that something like this would not happen.
Biden and Trump's acceptance of an invitation to a televised showdown is the latest development in a rapidly escalating debate between the two political rivals.
Biden's campaign organizers earlier called on Trump to agree to appear in two televised presidential debates and formally informed the Commission on Presidential Debates that the president will not participate in the debates previously scheduled for the fall.
The former president reacted by saying that he stands by certain debates earlier and said that he would accept any moderator. Biden has only recently admitted that he would love to debate Trump.
“Donald Trump lost two debates to me in 2020. He hasn't appeared for a debate since. Now he's acting like he wants to debate me again ," Biden said.
“Well, make my day, mate, I'll even do it twice. So let's pick the dates, Donald, I heard you're free on Wednesdays," Biden said, poking fun at the schedule Trump has to appear in court on charges of his own.
Both have accepted an invitation from CNN to debate on June 27, in a historic showdown that will give new impetus to each's goals for the final months of the campaign.
"I received and accepted an invitation from CNN for a debate on June 27. I'm waiting for you, Donald. Like you said: anywhere, anytime, anywhere," Biden wrote on social media.
After this reaction of the President, an official of Donald Trump's campaign informed CNN that the former President had also accepted the television offer.
