The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) have announced that one of their volunteer doctors has been injured in an attack on al Amal hospital in southern Gaza.
The humanitarian group says the hospital and headquarters of the Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) in Khan Yunis is under "continuous shelling".
" These attacks have led to the loss of innocent civilian lives, including a five-day-old baby, and displaced thousands who were being hospitalized. One of our colleagues, a PRCS emergency medical services volunteer, was injured in the strike. This in addition to the 26 wounded since the start of the escalation of fighting and four colleagues who have tragically lost their lives in the line of duty ," says the FNKK.
The group said continued shelling of al Amal hospital had left the facility with a severe shortage of fuel and supplies.
The emblems of the Red Cross, Red Crescent and Red Crystal symbolize neutral and independent humanitarian aid at all times and guarantee protection in times of conflict and disaster around the world.
“ Continuous shelling has disrupted PRCS ambulances and paramedics, preventing vital medical assistance and basic life-saving emergency care. Access to medical care is a fundamental right and blocking these services is unacceptable. The people of Gaza have suffered enough and health care is one of the last beacons of hope ," the agency said.
The group has called on all parties to respect their obligations under International Humanitarian Law.
