US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has had a telephone conversation with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan about the war between Israel and Palestine.
State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said diplomatic efforts should be made to prevent the conflict from expanding and to minimize the humanitarian costs of the war.
"The secretary reiterated the need for Hamas to cease all violent attacks and immediately release the hostages, " Miller said.
A senior Turkish official told CNN that Turkey is trying to free the hostages taken by Hamas.
