The Ukrainian intelligence service claims that the weapons being used by Hamas armed groups in the battles against Israel in recent days have come from Russia.
A GUR statement claimed that the weapons were seized from Russian troops in the fighting in Ukraine and that their handover to Hamas was a "large-scale provocation against Ukraine".
" The next step, according to the Russian plan, should be to falsely accuse Ukrainian military personnel of selling Western weapons to terrorists on a regular basis ," the GUR statement said. The announcement does not mention what kind of weapon these are. Sources close to Hamas have released videos of the group's fighters carrying weapons similar to American M4 assault rifles.
GUR also says in its statement that Russia may use the statements of former Ukrainian border guard officer Ruslan Syrovoi in its propaganda battle. On Sunday, Russian Telegram channels uploaded a video of Syrovoy, who says he has been working for Russian security services since 2014.
" Thanks to Syrovoy, it became possible to carry out accurate artillery and air strikes on the facilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, " wrote the unofficial Russian channel Bezsonov. However, the alleged supply of weapons to Hamas is not mentioned in this context.
