Turkey-Greece conflict, Erdogan ultimatum Mitsotakis: We don't want

Greek-Turkish relations were on the 'menu' of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's discussion with journalists on the plane returning from the occupied territories and Azerbaijan.

According to reports from Protothema.gr., Erdogan has shown willingness to meet and discuss with the Greek prime minister at the Vilnius summit in July, while on the other hand, the Turkish president made it clear that if this happens, he will raise the issue of armaments.

"After our election, Mr. Mitsotakis called us and congratulated us. That was the process. Therefore, if we happen to meet in Vilnius, we will not hesitate to discuss. We are two neighboring countries. As long as there are no messages coming back to us from time to time, then we will seek to reduce tensions and hostilities, not increase them. So we will discuss them there as well. There is definitely something here. We know what to say. What is this; "Mr. Prime Minister, stop the armaments now. Where are you going with these armaments? America continues to give you many weapons. Are you taking them because they are giving you them for free?". Maybe we will talk about them. Know also that we are here to diminish our enemies, not to increase them. This is the Turkish Republic, this is Erdogan," said the Turkish president.

Commenting on the possibility of talks on the Cyprus issue, Erdogan said that there is a more peaceful atmosphere with the current administration of the Greek Cypriot side compared to the previous ones.

"If they maintain this peaceful atmosphere and say 'yes' to the protection of the sovereign equality rights of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus without any challenge, especially from the European Union, we will say 'why not'. But they must recognize the the sovereign equality rights of Northern Cyprus. To this day, the European Union is dishonest to Northern Cyprus. 50 years have passed, this European Union is still in the same place, nothing has changed. We will put these things in table. We have to reconsider this too", he said.

Tensions between the two countries have started since their conflict over disputes over territorial waters.
