Free Iran Convention condemns Iranian regime, supports Mujahideen; messages from

A major convention was held in Washington, DC, on Saturday evening by representatives of the Iranian diaspora in exile, scientists and academics residing in the US and supporting the MEK. The convention discussed the situation of the Iranian regime and the path to achieving a nuclear-free and democratic Iran. Several important American and international figures, such as the Honorable Mike Pompeo, attended and delivered their messages.

The Convention for a Free Iran condemned the Iranian regime, as well as supported the Mujahideen and the cause of the resistance of the Iranian people.

The convention brought together over 1,000 Iranian academics, activists, professionals, and community leaders from the US, along with victims of the regime and witnesses of the uprisings.

“This one-day event, which included various panels with Iranian experts and scientists as well as international personalities, addressed regime change and the roadmap for establishing a democratic republic in Iran.

Keynote speakers at the convention included: Maryam Rajavi, the elected president of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), Mike Pompeo, former 70th United States Secretary of State, John Bercow, former Speaker of the United Kingdom House of Commons, Ambassador Carla Sands, and Patrick Kennedy, grandson of John F. Kennedy and former U.S. Congressman.

Themed "The Path to a Democratic and Prosperous Republic in Iran: A Roadmap to End the Theocracy, a Plan for the Future," this one-day event addressed regime change amid Iran's growing crises, aiming for a secular, nuclear-weapon-free democracy.

Maryam Rajavi gave a forceful keynote speech, declaring the “last phase” of the clerical regime, a looming winter of weakness and fatigue. She evoked the “explosive” unrest in society, citing the self-immolation of Ahvaz activist Ahmad Baledi and the protests of workers, teachers, nurses, and pensioners as an “inevitable river” toward collapse. Rajavi advocated a “third option”: the overthrow of the regime by the people and a resistance led by the Mojahedin-e Khalq (MEK).

Her post-theocracy vision, born of decades of sacrifice, replaces nuclear danger with economic and social progress. The key elements: a republic with free elections, separation of religion and state, leadership equality for women, and ethnic autonomy. "We do not seek power, but to return sovereignty to the people," she said, through a six-month caretaker government for a Constituent Assembly.

An international panel strengthened calls for strong policies.

Former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo labeled the regime “weak” and isolated, with its proxies weakened and its nuclear program banned. Rejecting the myths of “no alternative,” he supported a democratic Iran over theocracy or monarchy, praising the NCRI’s willingness to do without US troops—just support for the opposition and “immediate reimposition” of sanctions. “Reconciliation fails,” he predicted, while internal resistance ensures its downfall.

John Bercow , called it a “failed state” of “barbarism,” incapable of reform and ready to leave. He promoted the MEK/NCRI as the legitimate force, tested by sacrifice, not exile. Bercow blasted Reza Pahlavi as a “luxurious” heir avoiding his father’s sins, unfit for power: “He’s not some Shah’s son. No way.” To Pahlavi: “Don’t call us; we won’t call you.” The flame of freedom, he urged, demands perseverance.

Ambassador Carla Sands hailed the convention as evidence of the NCRI’s “government-in-waiting” under Rajavi’s visionary helm, rejecting the Shah’s resurrection: “No turban-for-crown exchange.” The regime fears the MEK organized as existentialists, not monarchs, and she highlighted the women-led uprising as the only female-led revolution in the region. “Reform impossible; reconciliation failed.”

Former Congressman Patrick Kennedy (D-RI) delivered his message as well.

The event strengthened the NCRI's roadmap as a sustainable path to Iranian freedom.
