Crisis from the war in the Middle East, the EU sends 100 million euros in aid to

The European Union has offered 100 million euros in aid to Lebanon as the country faces a humanitarian crisis due to the US and Israel's war with Iran.

EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the bloc sent more than 40 tons of supplies to Lebanon on Tuesday and plans to organize additional humanitarian flights.

More than 800,000 people have been displaced internally, according to Lebanese officials. But that number only includes people who have self-registered as such, so the true total is likely much higher, Lebanese Justice Minister Adel Nassar told CNN's Christiane Amanpour on Wednesday.

“The situation is very difficult because the resources are not very high. However, despite all these problems, there is a full mobilization of the government to address the needs as much as possible ,” Nassar said.

Nassar described the military action by Hezbollah - an Iran-backed militia based in Lebanon - against Israel as illegal and said it had plunged the country deeper into a widening regional conflict.

He said Hezbollah “did not cooperate as much as it should have” with efforts to dismantle its military infrastructure and argued that the group’s decision to fire rockets at Israel had given Israel a pretext to escalate attacks into a full-scale war.

Earlier, the UN humanitarian chief, Tom Fletcher, warned that Lebanon and the region were facing a moment of great danger.
