Iran's top military spokesman warned that ports in the region could become "legitimate military targets" if Iranian ports are attacked by the United States or its allies.
The statement comes at a time when tensions in the Persian Gulf have increased significantly, while naval incidents and military operations in the area have increased in recent days.
The Iranian official's warning came shortly after the US Central Command (CENTCOM) urged civilians in Iran to immediately avoid ports along the Strait of Hormuz, where the US military says Iranian naval forces are operating.
According to the US military statement, some of these ports could be used for military activities by the Iranian navy, which according to their interpretation could turn them into potential targets in the event of escalation.
The Strait of Hormuz is considered one of the most important energy transport corridors in the world, as a significant portion of global oil exports passes through it.
Recent developments indicate that tensions between the US and Iran in this strategic area remain high, while mutual warnings from both sides increase concern about further escalation in the region.
