A situation of confusion and uncertainty is being reported within the Iranian armed forces, according to Iranian opposition media. Iran International Television, which operates outside Iran, cites sources within the military who speak of the removal of several senior officers from military bases.
The reports come at a time when tensions in the region have increased and continued Israeli and United States attacks against targets linked to the Iranian regime have increased pressure on the country's security structures.
According to soldiers who spoke to Iran International, the situation has become more unclear since the recent political and military developments reported in the country. Some of them said that there has been confusion within military units about the chain of command.
Soldiers stationed at a military base in Lorestan province said they no longer have clarity about who is leading their units, after several senior officers, they said, have left the camp. One of them told the media that some commanders, worried about the possibility of unrest, have abandoned their positions, leaving the soldiers without guidance and support.
Some soldiers have also reported that, fearing US and Israeli airstrikes, they spend the night outside military bases in open areas to avoid the risk of possible strikes. They accuse the armed forces' leaders of leaving their units unprotected and without clear instructions.
Iran International's reports have not been independently confirmed by Iranian authorities.
