The head of the Wagner mercenary group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, has declared that his forces have taken control of the city of Rostov-on-Don. Foreign media reports that armored military vehicles have been seen on the streets of the city, which is over 1,100 km south of Moscow.
Residents of the wider Rostov region on the border with Ukraine have been told to stay indoors as security forces operate in the area.

Wagner, meanwhile, is being investigated for sedition after he accused the Russian military of a deadly missile attack on his troops.

This was stated by the governor of the region, Vasily Golubev, on his Telegram channel after the announcement of the head of the Wagner paramilitary group.
He also writes that it is not true that Rostov has been put under curfew.
" The current situation requires the maximum concentration of all forces to maintain order. Law enforcement agencies are doing everything necessary to ensure the safety of the residents of the district ." wrote the Russian governor asking everyone to stay calm and not leave the house unless necessary.
Earlier, the head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations for the region announced that the information spread on social networks and instant messages about the introduction of a curfew in the Rostov region is not true.
