Russia attacks, the West is silent: 18 dead in Kiev, including children...
One of the bloodiest attacks this year on Ukraine was carried out today by the Russian air force, shaking not only Kiev but also the entire fragile architecture of diplomatic efforts for peace.
International media, including CNN, WSJ and AP, report that the attack involved the massive use of missiles and drones, including Iranian ballistic missiles and Shahed drones, resulting in a wave of destruction with severe human and material consequences.

The Russian air force launched over 598 drones and at least 31 missiles at Ukrainian targets, including the city center of Kiev. 563 drones and 26 missiles were shot down by Ukrainian air defenses, but the rest hit civilian objects, homes, critical infrastructure, and diplomatic buildings. Tragically, 18 people were confirmed dead, including four children, while over 38 others were injured. The heaviest damage was reported in the Darnytskyi district and near the building of the Delegation of the European Union and the British Council, severely shaking the symbolism of the Western presence in Ukraine.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky declared the attack "a deliberate crime against civilians" and called on the international community to respond not just with statements but with concrete actions. European leaders have reacted strongly. The European Union and the United Kingdom have summoned Russian ambassadors to demand explanations and warn of diplomatic consequences. Ursula von der Leyen called the attack "barbaric and unacceptable," while French President Macron called for "deeper and more immediate sanctions."

Russia, for its part, stated that the attack targeted military and logistical structures, but the damage to schools, hospitals and residential centers suggests otherwise. This is the second major attack in as many weeks, coinciding with US President Donald Trump's diplomatic efforts to broker a peaceful solution. Ironically, Trump's every attempt at an "immediate ceasefire" is being accompanied by a visible escalation of violence.
Trump, since returning to the White House, has personally taken on the burden of resolving the war in Ukraine, but the reality on the ground speaks of a growing failure. His soft, unconditionally negotiated approach to Russia appears to have encouraged the Kremlin to intensify its aggression. Instead of deterring Putin, Trump’s rhetoric and lack of a red line have made the situation more dangerous. He promised peace, but what we see is more bloodshed, more destabilization, and more challenges to the international order.

This development marks not only a critical point in the war in Ukraine, but also a wake-up call for the very legitimacy of Western leadership in this crisis. If the US president cannot stop such massacres, then what is America's true role today? Is it a peacekeeper, or a helpless spectator in the face of barbarity? /Pamphlet
