A second woman has filed sexual harassment allegations against the chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Karim Khan, according to an investigation launched by a UN watchdog body.

She claims that while she was working as an intern for Khan in 2009, he repeatedly harassed her and abused his position, pressuring her for sexual intercourse.

Khan, who categorically denies the allegations, has temporarily stepped down from leading the ICC's investigations department while the investigation process continues into another similar case, raised by a former court employee.

Both women have stated that he invited them to work at his home, where he tried to approach them physically and convince them to have intimate relations.

Khan's lawyers say the allegations are "completely untrue" and that he is the victim of a campaign to discredit him, particularly following the arrest warrants issued for Vladimir Putin and Benjamin Netanyahu.

After the UN investigation is complete, a panel of judicial experts will decide whether Khan has committed serious violations, which could lead to a vote by the 125 member states to remove him.

Meanwhile, new testimonies from the two women have raised serious doubts about the chief prosecutor's conduct, putting the ICC facing an unprecedented crisis of credibility.
