Today marks 6 years since the mafia murder of the leader of the Kosovo Serbs, Oliver Ivanović. He was and will remain a connecting thread between Belgrade and Mitrovica. In his honor, the opposition will protest in Belgrade today, while in Mitrovica at exactly 08:15, candles were lit at the place where he was killed. Those who knew him do not lose hope that one day the names of those behind Oliver's death will be known. Unfortunately, their eyes are not on Belgrade, but on the international community. First of all, America.
Oliver Ivanovic was killed on January 16, 2018. Exactly six years ago. With five shots in the back. From a moving car, which was soon found burnt. There were no witnesses.
In February 2020, the Special Prosecutor's Office of Kosovo indicted a criminal group led by "controversial businessmen", Zvonko Veselinovic and Milan Radoicic, for the crime.
The trial, which began in July 2021, is taking place against six people accused of being members of that group, but not against Veselinovic and Radoicic, because Kosovo laws do not allow the proceedings to take place in absentia. A parallel investigation is being developed by the institutions in Serbia, but it has not progressed at all.
Only disinformation comes from Serbian officials, like the one recently spread by Minister Bratislav Gashič - that Germany is hiding the killers, which caused a diplomatic scandal and was followed by a swift apology from Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić.
Meanwhile, Belgrade and Prishtina accuse each other of organizing and carrying out the murder, but also of hiding the evidence. Because of all this, there is no epilogue. Or there really is no will to find the killer.
Oliver Ivanovic's cousin, Aleksandar, says that for six years the Serbian state has not shown readiness to reveal the author.
" During these six years, I have asked myself if I am doing enough, if I can do anything else to contribute to finding out as soon as possible who killed him and who ordered that murder. I am absolutely aware that he became a symbol because of his character, his actions and the principles he lived by, so it is important for us that the case of Oliver Ivanovic is not forgotten in any way ," Ivanovic said yesterday.
And again, looking for an explanation of Oliver's tragic death, we look to the West and the international community.
Aleksandar Vucic's skin is in danger
The President of the European Movement of Serbs from Kosovo, Rada Trajkovic, told the "Nova" newspaper that progress in the investigation can only be made if America is involved in everything.
" Aleksandar Vučić's skin is in danger and therefore we still do not have all the information about the murder of Oliver ", said Trajkovic.
When it comes to the investigation carried out by Pristina, Trajkovic says that all processes were carried out in a one-sided and unprofessional manner.
" If the institutions of Pristina were capable, they would not have moved the court of Kosovo to The Hague. This is evidence that the international community has assessed them as incapable of serious cases ", says Trajkovic.
Demanding answers to Ivanović's death, the opposition protested yesterday in Belgrade.
One of the members of the "Serbia against violence" list, Miroslav Aleksic, said that it is clear that Oliver Ivanovic is a threat to the processes in the north of Kosovo.
" That murder is one of the biggest symbols of violence in Serbia, it's a monstrous act that preceded a brutal campaign on television like Pink. It was a political murder," Aleksic said. / Adapted "Pamphlet" from " Nova ".
