Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Saturday that the proposed Ukraine peace plan, as well as recent UN proposals to revive the Black Sea grain deal, were both "unrealistic".
Mr Lavrov spoke after a week of intense global diplomacy at the annual meeting of world leaders at UN headquarters in New York, where Ukraine and its Western allies sought to bolster support for Kiev as it fights aggressor Russia.
"This is completely impossible," Mr. Lavrov said of a 10-point peace plan pushed by Kiev. "It is not possible to implement this. It is not realistic and everyone understands that, but at the same time, they say that this is the only basis for negotiations".
He said the conflict would be resolved on the battlefield if Kiev and the West took that stance. Mr. Lavrov added that Moscow left the wheat agreement because the promises made to Russia had not been fulfilled, among them the lifting of sanctions against a Russian bank and its reconnection with the global SWIFT system.
He said recent United Nations proposals to revive the export deal for Ukrainian agricultural products were "simply unrealistic".
Mr Lavrov said he would visit Pyongyang next month to continue negotiations following recent deals made by Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Moscow. /VOA
