"We are striking in the Gaza Strip, in Yemen, in Beirut, wherever necessary," stressed Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, as the international community tries to prevent an all-out Iran-Israel war.
New concern about the situation in the Middle East has been caused by a statement by the US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, where he allegedly told his G7 colleagues that Iran and Hezbollah could launch their attack on Israel within 24 upcoming.
At the same briefing, Blinken added that it is not known how Iran and Hezbollah will strike. The US Secretary of State also told his counterparts that the US is making efforts to break the cycle of escalation by trying on the one hand to limit strikes against Israel as much as possible and on the other hand to contain Tel Aviv's reaction.
One of the sources also said Blinken was angry at the collapse of recent Gaza ceasefire negotiations, saying Washington had a feeling a deal was close before Haniya's assassination in Tehran.
At the same time, Iran has reportedly rejected calls from the US and Arab countries to ease tensions, with the Wall Street Journal reporting that Tehran has said it will strike Israel even if it means war. According to the report, the foreign ministers of Jordan and Lebanon traveled to Iran in an attempt to ease tensions with Tehran by telling Arab diplomats that it was preparing to strike Israel "and does not care if this response causes war."
Israeli officials also consider Iran's military "response" to the assassination of Ismail Haniya in Tehran as a matter of time, and therefore yesterday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with security chiefs to decide on the possibility of "preemptive actions or strikes" against which Israel could release, "including in Lebanon or possibly other locations as needed," as reported by Channel 12.
However, in the early hours of Monday, Hezbollah fired rockets again, as it had done in the early hours of Sunday. In fact, this time one of the missiles… escaped Herod's Dome and found a target.
The Israeli military said the targets were captured, but a rocket fell on Kibbutz Ayelet HaShahar in northern Israel, slightly injuring an IDF officer and a soldier, who were taken to a hospital for medical treatment.
Israel will stand firm against any threats from Iran and its backers, including Beirut and Yemen, Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallad said earlier on Sunday.
"Our defense readiness is high, whether on the ground or in the air," Gallant said.
