Israel-Gaza war/ Netanyahu blames army intelligence for Hamas attack: I was not

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday claimed that senior intelligence officials and senior security leaders did not warn him of the militant attack by Hamas.

Israel is known to have both the most advanced surveillance technology and defense systems, but the October 7 multi-pronged attack sent security teams scrambling as militants ran through Israeli settlements, killing hundreds.

In his post on X, Netanyahu said he was not warned about the attack on October 7.

His comments caused a major political uproar and also led to a rift within his war cabinet.

After drawing criticism for not taking responsibility for intelligence and operational failures surrounding the Hamas attack, Netanyahu deleted the tweet.

"At no time and at no stage was Prime Minister Netanyahu given a warning about Hamas' war aims. On the contrary, all security officials, including the head of army intelligence and the head of the Shin Bet, assessed that Hamas was deterred and interested in an agreement," said the head of the Israeli government.

From the heads of the military and domestic Shin Bet spy service to finance ministers, many senior officials have come forward to admit their failures.

Earlier, Prime Minister Netanyahu had waived questions of responsibility for the surprise attack by Hamas. Before the post, he had said only that he would have time to ask tough questions, including of himself, after the war.

Following his comments, Israel's military spokesman chose not to respond and said: "We are now at war, focused on war."

His remarks were rebuked by current and former allies.

Former defense minister and current member of Netanyahu's war cabinet, Benny Gantz, urged Netanyahu to take back his comments and drop the case.

"When we're at war, the leadership has to show responsibility, decide to do the right thing and build the forces in a way that they can do what we ask of them," Gantz said.

Why did Netanyahu apologize?

Consecutive comments would follow what was a statement by the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, regarding the failure of the Israeli Intelligence and Army to detect the attack by Hamas on October 7, when over 1,400 people were killed.

More and more Israeli politicians are now coming out to criticize the country's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's comments in which he blamed the country's security chiefs for the October 7 attack.

"The problem is not the specific warnings, but the whole misunderstanding. The policy of containment, imaginary prevention and buying temporary peace at an exorbitant price, these are the fathers of all sins," said Minister of National Security and far-right leader Itamar Ben Gvir on the X social platform.
