Jurgen Klopp has confirmed for the first time that he is in talks to take over as Germany coach, admitting that the position of national team coach is a challenge that attracts him.
In an interview with "Severus TV", the German technician announced that contacts have begun, while emphasizing that he is currently engaged in the position of head of the football department at the Red Bull company, which owns several clubs in different countries around the world.
Klopp has been away from the bench for two years, since leaving Liverpool, and during this period he has exercised leadership functions in Red Bull's sports structures.
Speaking about the possibility of taking over the leadership of Germany, he stated:
" Yes, the talks have really started and I think it makes sense for me to say something about it too. I wanted to do it here, because it's not an easy situation. I have a job at Red Bull, where I really enjoy working. I have a team that I work closely with and people that I've gotten to know very well over almost two years. I don't give up something like that easily.
"On the other hand, the position of national team coach is an extremely attractive and very important task. I can't deny that I'm interested. I'm also interested in talks, but at the moment Oliver Minclaff is my first person to contact me. Red Bull has to give the approval and I believe they will. Honestly, I didn't expect this to happen at this stage. I've always supported the German national team and I hoped that things would go better than they have ."
Klopp has not confirmed whether an agreement has been reached, but his statements imply that the possibility of taking over the German national team is concrete, if the parties reach an agreement.
