US President Donald Trump, speaking about the war situation in Iran, said that the US often diverts weapons from one region to another, responding to reports that the Pentagon may send weapons originally intended for Ukraine to the Middle East. He justified this action by stating that this is a frequently used practice.
"We do this all the time. Sometimes we take one and use it for another," Trump said during a cabinet meeting at the White House.
Trump's confirmation that weapons destined for Ukraine could end up in the Middle East confirms the concerns of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who at the beginning of the war against Iran declared that this conflict would negatively affect Ukraine's war with Russia.
Zelensky's concern is not unfounded, given that most of the weapons used in the war against Russia come from the US. This means that even if weapons for Ukraine are purchased in the US with EU funding, there will still be shortages and delays in supplies, which will directly affect the battlefield.
