French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed that 26 countries are ready to contribute troops and military equipment to a "security force" for Ukraine, which will be activated only after peace with Russia is achieved.
The statement was made after a meeting in Paris between the so-called "Coalition of the Willing", a group of 35 countries that support Ukraine, which was also attended by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
According to Macron, this force will operate on land, air and sea, and will be part of new security guarantees for Ukraine after the end of the war. “ Our goal is for Ukraine to be able to defend itself at any moment and to discourage any future Russian aggression ,” he declared.
Macron explained that the immediate priority is the "regeneration" of Ukraine's military capabilities, to create a new, modern and sustainable army that will no longer depend on permanent Western aid.
"To date, 26 countries from this Coalition of the Willing have pledged to send troops to Ukraine as security forces starting the day after the signing of the peace agreement," French President Emmanuel Macron said at the conference.
The French president stated that Russia has lost over 1 million soldiers during the war with Ukraine.
"We do not know the exact number of victims of this war. But we know that Russia has lost over a million soldiers, killed or wounded, in its plan to occupy less than 1% of Ukrainian territory by November 2022," said French President Emmanuel Macron at the end of the Volunteers meeting.
