French President Emmanuel Macron said today that the "method used" by the United States to arrest Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro "is not supported or approved" by France.
Macron also said that Nicolas Maduro was a "dictator" and that his departure "is good news for Venezuelans."
President Macron was criticized, mainly by the French left, for his initial reaction of not commenting on Washington's methods.
Macron was one of the first European leaders to comment on Maduro's arrest as soon as the news was made public by Trump. France was among the countries that did not recognize Maduro's last term in Venezuela, like most European states.
