While the raid sparked global political backlash, it was one unexpected detail that dominated online conversations: the clothes Maduro was wearing.
Within hours of his capture, US President Donald Trump shared an image of Maduro in handcuffs and a blindfold. The photo showed the Venezuelan leader wearing a pair of grey Nike Tech. Social media users quickly claimed the outfit had sold out, turning a serious geopolitical moment into an unusual fashion trend.

The image quickly spread across platforms, prompting mixed reactions. Some users joked that the look could pass as a Halloween costume, while others noticed a sudden increase in Google searches for Nike Tech Fleece.
Maduro was also seen wearing a $6 Wanme sleep mask and $11 Flintronic noise-canceling headphones. According to online chatter, even these small details caught attention, as users zoomed in on every element of the photo. The Venezuelan leader reportedly wears a size 3XL.
Despite claims of total sellout, the sports jacket and tracksuit are still listed on Nike's site priced at $140 (around Rs 13,000) and $120 respectively.
The moment has also been seen from another ironic angle. Maduro built his political image on resistance to American influence, yet the defining image of his capture showed him wearing a globally recognized American brand. For critics, the symbolism was undeniable. For others, it was simply bizarre enough to go viral.
