The meeting with President Tamás Sulyok is expected to take place amid political tensions following Viktor Orbán's defeat.

Hungary's election winner, Péter Magyar, has been invited to meet with the country's president, Tamás Sulyok, on Wednesday to discuss the government formation process following his surprise victory over Viktor Orbán in Sunday's election.

The meeting is expected to take place in a tense atmosphere, as Magyar has repeatedly called for the resignation of Sulyok, whom he considers a figure close to Orbán. In a recent statement, he said that the president “is appointed to sign every document presented to him,” adding that “we don’t need such people” and that for him “he is not the president.”

Meanwhile, in the United States, Vice President JD Vance reacted publicly for the first time after his trip to Budapest last week, during which he supported Orbán in the final days of the election campaign.

In an interview with Fox News, Vance stated that he regretted Orbán's loss, but emphasized that his intervention "had nothing to do with Russia and essentially nothing to do with Europe," but was a sign of appreciation by the US administration for the Hungarian leader's stance against the European Union bureaucracy.

According to him, Orbán has been one of the few European leaders to oppose Brussels decisions that, according to Vance, have been harmful to American interests, including cases where American companies have faced measures from European institutions.

Vance added that the White House was aware of the real possibility of Orbán's defeat, but had chosen to stand by him because of the continued support he has given the US over the years.

He described Orbán as "a leader who has done a very good job," emphasizing that his 16-year legacy in Hungary has brought about fundamental changes in the country.
