French President Emmanuel Macron asked Benjamin Netanyahu for a ceasefire to enable the release of Hamas hostages and the opening of humanitarian aid crossings.
During a telephone conversation, Macron stressed that the nightmare of civilians must end, also expressing his support for a two-state political solution.
"The opening of all crossing points for humanitarian aid is vital for the civilian population in Gaza. Aid must reach civilians as quickly as possible," Macron declared.
For his part, Netanyahu told Macron that the creation of a Palestinian state would be 'a great reward for terrorism,' according to French media.
