An emergency meeting of the UN Security Council is currently underway to discuss the situation in Gaza.
The meeting was called by Britain, France and Algeria and comes after Israel received a strong warning from the United States about the humanitarian situation.
US Ambassador to the UN - Linda Thomas-Greenfield, told the Security Council that the US is watching to ensure that Israel's actions on the ground do not amount to a "policy of starvation".
" The government of Israel has said that this is not their policy. That food and other essential supplies will not be cut off. And we will be watching to see that Israel's actions on the ground match this statement ," she said.
According to the US letter to the Israeli government, trucks with humanitarian aid paid for by the US are being held by Israel at border points with Gaza.
Washington has demanded that Israel increase the amount of aid entering Gaza within 30 days and has set a target of 350 trucks a day, otherwise military aid is at risk.
