At least 71 people were killed in an Israeli attack on a prison in Iran, Iranian judiciary spokesman Asghar Jahangir said.
The attack on Evin Prison in Tehran occurred on June 23, during a 12-day siege.
This happened at the end of almost two weeks of fighting, writes Sky News.
Evin is known for holding some of Tehran's political prisoners. The attack was a demonstration that Israel was striking symbols of Iran's ruling system, and not just military and nuclear targets.
"In the attack on Evin Prison, 71 people were martyred, including administrative staff, young men serving in the military, detainees, family members of detainees visiting them, and neighbors living near the prison," Jahangir said in a statement to the judiciary's Mizan media outlet.
Jahangir had earlier said that part of the administrative building was damaged in the attack and that some people were killed. The remaining prisoners have been transferred to other institutions.
