Italian prosecutors have launched an investigation into James Catfield, the captain of British millionaire Mike Lynch's yacht, which sank seven days ago near Palermo, killing Lynch and six others.
Catfield, 51, a New Zealand citizen, is under investigation for the manslaughter and sinking of the ship, Italian dailies La Repubblica and Corriere della Sera reported, as reported by Reuters.
The head of public prosecution of the city of Termini Imerese, Ambrogio Cartozio, said that although the yacht sank due to a storm, it is likely that the sinking of the ship was intentional.
The yacht sank near Palermo last Monday, within minutes of a storm.
There were 22 people in the sunken yacht and 15 of them were saved.
