Tyler Robinson and his transgender boyfriend

The arrested perpetrator of Charlie Kirk's murder, Tyler Robinson, sent a text message to his roommate after the shooting to discuss a possible motive, according to court documents.

The roommate, who has not been identified, told investigators that Tyler Robinson had tipped him off to a confession under his keyboard after last Wednesday's shooting on the campus of Utah Valley University in the city of Orem, prosecutors said.

Robinson was brought to trial, where the prosecution's evidence for his detention and guilt was read. The prosecution is also preparing to seek the death penalty against him.

Authorities have said the roommate, whose name has not been released, was a transgender male who was transitioning to female and was in a romantic relationship with the defendant, the BBC reports.

Below is a series of text messages exchanged with the suspected gunman on the day of the shooting, which the roommate gave to investigators.

Robinson: Stop what you're doing, look under my keyboard.

When the roommate looked under the keyboard, he found a note that supposedly read:

“I had the opportunity to eliminate Charlie Kirk and I will take it.”]

Roommate: "What?? You're kidding, right????"

Robinson: I'm still fine, dear, but I'm stuck in Orem for a while yet. It shouldn't be long before I get home, but I still need to get my rifle. To tell you the truth, I was hoping to keep this secret until I died of old age. I'm sorry to involve you.

Roommate: Weren't you the one who did it right????

Robinson: Yes, I'm sorry.

Roommate: I thought they caught the person?

Robinson: No, they caught a crazy old guy, then they interrogated someone in similar clothes. I had planned to get my rifle from the drop-off point a little later, but most of that side of town was blocked off. It's quiet, almost enough to get out, but there's a vehicle parked there.

Roommate: Why?

Robinson:  Why did I do it?

Roommate: Yes.

Robinson:  I was disgusted by his hatred. A little hatred cannot be extinguished by negotiations.

Robinson:  If I can get my rifle without seeing it, I won't have left any evidence. I'll try to get it again, I hope they've moved on. I haven't seen anything that they've found.

Roommate: How long have you been planning this?

Robinson:  A little over a week I believe. I could get close to it, but there's a police car parked right next to it. I think they've cleared that place by now, but I don't want to risk it.

Robinson:  I wish I could have turned back and grabbed it as soon as I got to my vehicle… I’m worried about what my old man would do if I didn’t bring my grandfather’s rifle back… I wish it had a serial number, but he wouldn’t find me. I worry about the trail I had to leave in a bush where I changed clothes. I didn’t have the means or the time to take it with me… I might have to abandon it and hope they don’t find the trail. How am I going to explain [expletive] losing it to my old man…

The only thing left for me was the rifle wrapped in a towel...

Do you remember how I carved bullets? [Explosive] messages are mostly big memes, if I see “notes bulge wow” on Fox News I might have a stroke, okay, I’ll have to leave it, this [explosion] is really bad… judging from today, I’d say grandpa’s gun works pretty well, I don’t know. I think it was a $2,000 pair of binoculars.

Robinson: Delete this exchange.

Robinson:  My dad wants a picture of the rifle… he says grandpa will know who has what, the feds released a picture of the rifle, and it's very unique. He's calling me now, he's not answering.

Robinson: Since Trump took office, [my father] has been quite a fan of the magazine.

Robinson:  I'll surrender willingly, one of my neighbors here is a deputy sheriff.

Robinson:  You're the only thing that worries me about love.

Roommate:  I'm much more worried about you.

Robinson: Please don't talk to the media. Don't give interviews or make comments. … if any police officer asks you questions, get a lawyer and keep quiet.
