"He threatened me", Montenegrin President demands Nik Gjeloshaj's

The office of the President of Montenegro has announced that Deputy Prime Minister Nik Gjeloshaj sent a series of threats and inappropriate messages to the President, Jakov Milatovic, immediately after it was made public that the head of state had returned the law on real estate tax to the Parliament for reconsideration.

On the evening of August 1, Milatović's cabinet called on Prime Minister Milojko Spajić to immediately dismiss Gjelošaj, and that everything had been reported to the Police Director.

The president's office estimates that the reason for the threats is related to several court disputes that the Municipality of Tuzi has with the company "Plantatione e 13 julirukt", regarding the (illegal) calculation of real estate tax on agricultural land, writes rel.

"For these disputes, there are disagreements about the illegal calculation of the annual real estate tax that the Municipality of Tuzi has collected through the freezing of accounts. The Plantation Company has been forced to seek justice and the return of funds through the courts. These procedures have dragged on for years and all decisions that have been made by the Administrative Court on the company's appeals have already been in its favor," the statement says.

According to Millatovic's cabinet, "the main role in that process was played by the current Deputy Prime Minister, then mayor of Tuzi, Nik Gjeloshaj, against whom the Plantation company has filed a criminal complaint before the Office of the Special Chief State Prosecutor."

Disagreements between the Municipality of Tuzi and the Plantations company have continued for years.

With the creation of the Municipality of Tuzi, a good part of the company's lands are located under the territory of the local government.

Gjeloshaj responded through a statement, saying that Milatovic is attempting to use the accusations to distract attention from the main topic, which is that the president has refused to sign the Law on Real Estate Tax.

He claimed that Milatović refused to sign the law because of his “godfather-like connections with Nebojša Vuksanović, the former president of the Board of Directors of the Plantation company, for the purpose of personal gain for himself and for him.”

Nebojša Vuksanović is a former member of the Socialist People's Party.

The Presidency of Montenegro has said that he is not Milatovic's godfather and that he is engaged as an assistant in the president's office.

Milatovic is said to have returned the law to the Assembly due to, as he claimed, constitutional violations in the document, legal ambiguities, and the possibility that 22,000 farmers could lose tax breaks.

In several messages published by Milatović on the X platform, he told Gjeloshaj that he will not give in to pressure when it comes to the Constitution, and that he will respect the law and the interests of citizens and the state.

Gjeloshaj, on the other hand, wrote: "You shouldn't have gotten into this business and expected a reaction from Albanians at all levels and wherever we have influence."

Continuing the conversation, he told Milatović: "You will get the answer you deserve."
