Former Wagner group mercenaries previously based in Belarus are said to have signed contracts with the Russian defense ministry and moved to the eastern front in Ukraine.
Some of these mercenaries have also been redirected to Africa, Ukrainska Pravda reported, citing Illia Yevlash, spokesman for the Eastern Group of Armed Forces.
Yevlash noted that their threat level had decreased since the death of their top leader, Yevgeny Prigozhin, in a plane crash last month.
" Former members of the private military company Wagner are now currently present on the territory of the Eastern Group of Forces. They are participating in the fighting. Specifically, they come from the territory of Belarus, where they had their camps. They are now disbanding Yevlash said.
He added that these servicemen have joined various units - with some going to Africa, while others have resigned from contracts with the Russian defense ministry and are participating in the war in various capacities, including as instructors.
