In September, European Union countries registered 79,205 Ukrainian refugees, the highest monthly number since August 2023, according to Eurostat.
The EU agency attributed this to the decision taken in August to allow men aged 18 to 22 the right to cross the border freely.
More than 1.2 million Ukrainian refugees – 28.3% of the EU total – are currently sheltered in Germany, the agency said.
