FIFA has clarified one of the issues that has sparked the most interest on the eve of the 2026 World Cup final between Spain and Argentina, which will be played on Sunday at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
According to the official announcement from the organizers, the break between the first and second halves will not be much longer than usual. The interval will last 17 minutes, just two minutes longer than the standard 15-minute time provided for by the IFAB regulations.
FIFA announced that the musical performance planned during the break will last approximately 11 minutes. The remaining minutes will be used for setting up and dismantling the stage, as well as for preparing the pitch, including watering the green carpet.
FIFA's decision comes after a debate in recent days over the possibility of a longer break due to the artistic spectacle. Organisers have clarified that the break will be only slightly longer than usual and is not expected to affect the pace or tactical aspects of the final.
As for the show, FIFA has prepared a program with famous names in world music. Shakira, Justin Bieber, Madonna and the South Korean group BTS are expected to take the stage. Burna Boy, conductor Gustavo Dudamel and the PS22 Choir, led by Chris Martin, vocalist of the band Coldplay, will also be part of the performance.
The show will be organized in support of the "FIFA Global Civic Education Fund", an initiative that aims to raise $100 million to finance educational programs for children and the development of football worldwide.
