German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has issued a strong statement in support of Israel, directly accusing the Iranian regime of bringing "death and destruction to the world" through terrorist acts and the armed groups it sponsors.
“The regime in Tehran has spread death and destruction around the world, through attacks, assassinations and massacres, through Hezbollah and Hamas,” Merz said. He added that “what happened on October 7, 2023 in Israel would not have been possible without the regime in Tehran.”
Commenting on Iran’s involvement in supplying Russia with drones for the war in Ukraine, Merz said that “yes, it is a dirty job what Israel did there.” But he strongly defended the Israeli action, stating: “All I can say is that I have the greatest respect for the fact that the Israeli military had the courage to do this, and that the Israeli leadership had the determination to see it through to the end.”
He concluded the statement with a clear warning: “Otherwise, we could have seen the terror of this regime for months or years to come… and perhaps then with a nuclear weapon in hand.”
