Israel's bombing and assassination campaign has left Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, isolated and without a way out, British military analyst Michael Clarke told Sky News.
Speaking to journalist Leah Boleto, Clarke stated that the Israeli operations have been "extremely methodical", with well-planned strikes on all key targets.
“Khamenei is now isolated. He has almost no one around him,” Clarke said. “The Israelis knew exactly who he depended on – and they eliminated almost everyone.”
According to him, apart from his son and a replacement intelligence director, the supreme leader no longer has trusted people around him.
Clarke stressed that Israel is sending a very clear message to the Iranian leadership: "You are losing – and you will lose badly. The longer you push it, the more your people will suffer."
However, he warned that this does not necessarily mean that Iran will surrender, as leaders in Tehran may refuse to admit defeat for ideological and strategic reasons.
Clarke also mentioned the sentiment circulating in Israeli circles: a sense of "complete freedom" to strike any target, wherever and whenever they want. "That's the message Israel is sending," he concluded.
