
Pope Leo XIV is inaugurated at a mass in St. Peter's Square, marking the official beginning of his papacy.
The Holy Father began prayers at the altar outside St. Peter's Basilica, opening the solemn Mass. He began the ceremony with the words in Latin: "Brothers and sisters, on this day created by the Lord, we recall our baptism through the sign of this water."
This is an important event for Christians, where believers commemorate the sacrament of baptism, an act that symbolizes the beginning of spiritual life.
A large number of international leaders and dignitaries were present at this mass, including Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine, and JD Vance.
Also present were over 156 diplomatic delegations and other representatives from around the world, who participated in this solemn mass to express solidarity with the Vatican and celebrate this sacred event in the church calendar.
At this sacred moment, Pope Leo XIV also mentioned the importance of international unity and strengthening ties between nations and believers, revealing his commitment to peace and justice.
