Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has accused the US and Israel of "continuous illegal attacks" on "civilian targets and centers," including schools, hospitals, historical and cultural buildings and residential areas, according to Iranian state media. He added that the country will continue to resolutely "protect the Iranian nation."
In a post on Telegram, the IRNA news agency, affiliated with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, also says that Araghchi had discussed the war during a phone call with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
According to IRNA, Araghchi said that the insecurity of the Strait of Hormuz is the result of US and Israeli military actions and that Iran has the legal right to prevent ships from passing through the strait.
"As a coastal state of the Strait of Hormuz, the Islamic Republic of Iran, in accordance with the established principles and rules of international law, has prevented the transit of ships belonging to or affiliated with the aggressor parties and those participating in their acts of aggression," Araghchi's statement said.
