Dramatic moments for 165 passengers, plane engulfed in flames minutes after takeoff (video)

A dramatic mid-air explosion forced a passenger plane to turn back just minutes after takeoff, in the latest wave of disturbing aviation incidents.

The American Airlines flight, bound for North Carolina, was in the air at 8:20 a.m. local time on Wednesday when a loud boom erupted from one of its engines.

Flames and thick smoke were seen coming from the left side of the plane. There were 165 passengers on board, but airport spokesman Luke Nimmo later confirmed that the plane landed at Harry Reid International Airport and there were no injuries.
