The US is tightening its visa policy against drug traffickers, but not only that. The executive order by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also includes in the blacklist family members, associates, business partners, or anyone considered a close personal associate of drug traffickers.
"I am announcing a new visa restriction policy under section 212(a)(3)(C) of the Immigration and Nationality Act that will apply to family members and close personal and business associates of individuals sanctioned under Executive Order 14059 Imposing Sanctions on Foreign Persons Involved in the Global Illicit Drug Trafficking (EO 14059)," Secretary Rubio's official announcement states.
This decision expands existing remedies, including sanctions under EO 14059 and visa ineligibility under section 212(a)(2)(C) of the Immigration and Nationality Act for traffickers of controlled substances.
Imposing visa restrictions on drug traffickers, their family members, and close personal and business associates will not only prevent them from entering the United States, but will serve as a deterrent to the continuation of illegal activities, the US Secretary of State's decision states.
The US Department of State will use all means necessary to disrupt and dismantle the flow of fentanyl and other illegal drugs entering the United States and harming American citizens.
