United States President Donald Trump has issued a strong statement against Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, accusing him of "blatant lies" about the end of the 12-day war with Israel. In a post on the Truth Social platform, Trump revealed that he had personally intervened to stop a major Israeli airstrike on Tehran that could have resulted in Khamenei's elimination and further destruction of Iran.
Trump rejected Khamenei's claims that Iran had emerged "victorious" and delivered a "strong slap" to the US and Israel.
"Why would the so-called 'Supreme Leader' so openly and thoughtlessly claim that he won the war with Israel, when I know that is a lie? His country was destroyed, his three nuclear power plants were destroyed. I knew exactly where he was hiding, but I was determined that neither Israel nor our armed forces, the most powerful in the world, would eliminate him ," Trump wrote, claiming he had spared Khamenei "an ugly and shameful death."
According to the American president, in the final moments of the conflict, he had ordered Israel to withdraw a group of fighter jets that were heading towards Tehran for an attack that could have been the "final blow" of the war.
" This would have been the biggest attack, without a doubt, " Trump added, emphasizing his role in preventing further escalation.
Trump also revealed that he had been working on the possible lifting of some economic sanctions on Iran as a gesture to help the country recover from the conflict. However, following Khamenei's statements, which he described as "full of hatred and hostility," Trump said he immediately halted any efforts to ease the sanctions.
"I was working to give Iran a chance for a quick recovery, but I received a response filled with anger and contempt. I gave up everything ," he declared.
