The White House, through several posts on "X", has published a series of strong messages following the order of US President Donald Trump regarding the military operation registered on Saturday in Venezuela, where the country's president, Nicolas Maduro, and his wife were arrested.

The bombastic statements from the White House, as Trump often makes to the media, and the idea of a "kidnapping" of Maduro by the US, conceived as a direct act of force, place American politics in a frightening parallel with the figure of 'Don Corleone' in the film 'The Godfather', not as a guarantor of legal order, but as a mafia patriarch who acts on the logic of "an offer you can't refuse."
Like Corleone who justifies violence in the name of order, honor, or family interest, this type of political discourse strips international law of its universality and turns power into the sole arbiter.
In this way, the US risks losing moral authority, while Russia and China gain ready alibis to follow the same brutal logic, transforming the global arena from a system of rules into a stage where the law of the strongest rules.
Meanwhile, the attack ordered by US President Donald Trump on Venezuela constitutes a "serious violation of international law and an act of aggression against a sovereign state," according to Professor Marina Castellaneta , lecturer in International Law at the University of Bari.
According to her, the action directly contradicts the United Nations Charter.
"Article 2, paragraph 4 of the UN Charter prohibits the use of force. This is a mandatory norm, from which it can only be deviated from in the case of self-defense, after an armed attack suffered. In this case, this condition does not exist," explains Castellaneta.
