Russian President Vladimir Putin said Sunday morning that Russia has successfully conducted a test of its Burevestnik nuclear-powered intercontinental ballistic missile.
Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov told Putin that the test took place on Tuesday, with the missile flying 14,000 kilometers over about 15 hours.
"It is truly a unique weapon, one that no other country in the world possesses," Putin said during a visit to one of the command centers of the Russian joint group of forces.
Putin claimed that the 9M730 Burevestnik, known by the NATO nickname SSC-X-9 Skyfall, is "invincible" against current and future missile defenses, with a nearly unlimited range and an unpredictable flight path.
The Burevestnik, part of Russia's advanced weapons program, which NATO designates as the SSC-X-9 Skyfall, made headlines in 2019 after a failed test led to a deadly recovery mission in the Arctic.
The Burevestnik nuclear-powered missile "has no equal in the world," Russian President Vladimir Putin said during a visit to the Joint Forces Command Post, as reported by TASS .
"I have an industry report and the Defense Ministry's assessments are generally known. After all, it is a unique product, unlike any other in the world. I clearly remember when we announced that we were developing such a weapon. Even qualified specialists told me that, yes, it was a valid and worthy goal, but unattainable in the foreseeable future. This was the opinion of qualified specialists, I repeat," Putin said.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump said he would "waste no time" by scheduling another meeting with Putin without an imminent deal to end the war in Ukraine.
"I should have known we were going to make a deal," he told reporters accompanying him on his tour of Asia, when asked what would convince him to schedule another meeting with the Russian president.
"I won't waste my time. I've always had an excellent relationship with Vladimir Putin, but this has been very disappointing," he added, referring to efforts to resolve the conflict between Moscow and Kiev.
The American president has not failed to express his disappointment with Moscow and his Russian counterpart personally recently.
