Russian oil cutoff, Orban threatens EU: We will block any decision on Ukraine

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban warned that his country could block European Union decisions related to Ukraine if the issue of Russian oil supplies is not resolved.

According to Orban, this stance comes in reaction to what he described as an oil "blockade" by Kiev against supplies passing through the Druzhba pipeline, part of which passes through Ukrainian territory.

Supplies through the pipeline were cut off in January after Ukrainian authorities said the infrastructure had been damaged by Russian attacks — a claim Moscow has denied. Hungary and Slovakia, which rely heavily on Russian energy, have accused Kiev of deliberately cutting off supplies for political reasons and of putting up obstacles to restarting the flow of oil.

Orban said that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has openly expressed his intention to disrupt the European Union's supply of Russian energy. He also added that energy infrastructure related to these supplies could become the target of sabotage actions.

According to the Hungarian prime minister, authorities in Budapest have deployed armed forces at 75 points across the country to protect energy infrastructure.

Orban also added that the latest satellite intelligence data shows that the Druzhba pipeline is still operational. He called on the Ukrainian president to allow Hungarian inspectors to enter Ukraine to verify the condition of the pipeline.

"We demand that Zelensky allow our inspectors to enter Ukraine and make it possible to examine the pipeline," the Hungarian prime minister said.
