The warning comes from the well-known American political scientist Edward Luttwak. In this interview, he emphasizes that the president does not suffer from dementia, a terrible but progressive and linear pathology.
According to Luttwak, he has a serious problem with the central nervous system. It's not exactly Parkinson's, but it's treated by specialists as if it were. So having this disease means that the patient's brain can stop working for a few moments.
And this can happen at any time, even during an emergency situation, when very important decisions have to be made. Therefore, the political scientist points out, it may be harmful to keep him still at the head of the world's main power.
What do you think of Joe Biden's decision to withdraw from the November presidential race?
I think his withdrawal is a more than reasonable move. Finally some of his resistance, which had no reason to exist, fell. The deterioration of his mental state did not allow Joe Biden to be a candidate for a second term. I don't think there should be any doubt about that.
So now he's going to give all his support to Kamala Harris?
He had never openly said such a thing. Therefore, I think it is something new. However, from this moment forward, Kamala receives a great legacy: all that political protest, which has touched every corner of the United States for months.
So the Democrats are weaker on the eve of this election?
Absolutely yes! Whatever happens in the coming weeks, Donald Trump will be favored. Before Joe Biden withdrew, there were divisions among delegates at the Democratic Party convention. At that moment the president took the lion's share.
That's why it will probably be a one-sided decision, considering Joe's choice to back Harris. It's not certain if all of Joe's people follow their mentor, but they have a hard time changing their minds overnight.
For this reason, no one will appear on the stage to challenge Kamala.
Moreover, no one thinks of contesting the candidate presented by the White House. This means that, barring some unforeseen circumstances, it will be Kamala Harris who will challenge Donald Trump, and this is a very serious problem for the Democrats.
Why?
Because Harris can't win for one very simple reason: black men hate him. Democrats have always needed this segment of the electorate to rival conservatives. And this time this part of America, which has always been in their favor, will surely not be there to support them.
There are those who claim that Biden's decision was influenced by the Obama family. Do you agree with this hypothesis?
Barack has no influence over Biden's wife, who is the only person who has had any influence on Joe in recent days. Therefore, I believe that this decision was made only and exclusively by the Biden family. The current president stopped listening to Obama's advice a few weeks ago. That's why I say that in this last move, the former president had no influence.
If Biden has retired as president because of his health problems, how can he still think of leading a world power like the United States?
The solution to this problem is guaranteed by the US Constitution, which provides a mechanism where the members of the cabinet, headed by the Secretary of State, sit down and verify whether or not the president can act normally in the position he holds.
