French President Emmanuel Macron has held talks with Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman regarding efforts for a ceasefire and stability in the region, at a time when negotiations in Islamabad have just begun.
Macron announced that the two leaders agreed to maintain close contacts to coordinate positions and contribute to reducing tensions. He stressed his support for full respect for the ceasefire and its extension in the region.
"I reiterated my support for the ceasefire, which must be fully respected and extended without delay to Lebanon," Macron declared.
According to him, another key issue discussed was security in strategic sea routes.
"We discussed the need to restore completely free and safe navigation in the Strait of Hormuz as soon as possible ," the French president said.
On the eve of the start of talks in Islamabad, Macron stressed the importance of international coordination to reach a lasting agreement.
"We agreed to remain in close contact with the aim of contributing to a reduction in tensions, freedom of navigation and the conclusion of an agreement to ensure lasting peace and security in the region ," he said.
The statements come at a critical moment for the region, where tensions remain high and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz is considered essential for global trade and energy security.
