Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that Iran is developing an intercontinental ballistic missile capable of reaching the heart of Europe and the United States.
In an interview with podcaster Patrick Bet-David, Netanyahu said Tehran is producing a missile that can carry nuclear warheads, highlighting the strategic risk to the West.
His statement comes at a time of high tension in the Middle East, where Iran's nuclear program and missile tests have worried many Western countries.
Iran has been under international sanctions over its nuclear program and ballistic missile developments, while previous agreements to limit this program have failed to contain Tehran's ambitions.
Security experts warn that an Iranian intercontinental ballistic missile could change the strategic balance in the region and increase the need for enhanced coordination among Western countries on missile defense.
Meanwhile, the Israeli army is continuing its offensive deeper into Gaza City, destroying entire neighborhoods and leaving Palestinian families with nowhere safe to go as it seeks to capture the Strip's largest urban center, while an Israeli-induced famine has gripped the besieged enclave.
Videos published by Al Jazeera showed Palestinians fleeing the as-Saftawi area, north of Gaza City, as Israel tries to force nearly 1 million residents to relocate south to concentration areas.
Footage captured long lines of men, women and children moving along dusty, dilapidated roads, many carrying bags, blankets and mattresses. Some pushed carts filled with personal belongings, while others held children by the hand as they walked west.
Israel has completely destroyed more than 1,000 buildings in the Zeitoun and Sabra neighborhoods of Gaza City since it began its ongoing assault on the city on August 6, according to Palestinian Civil Defense estimates.
Gaza City resident and writer Sara Awad said Palestinian families had to choose between enduring intense Israeli bombardment at home or being displaced again.
“All the time, I wonder why I have to leave and live in a tent, when my home is here,” Awad said. Every day, she sees more Palestinian families packing up their belongings despite having nowhere to go.
"There's no point in leaving my home while they're not treating us like human beings," she said. However, she said she believed Palestinians were "living their last days in Gaza City."
At least 64 Palestinians were killed in Israeli strikes across Gaza since dawn, hospital sources told Al Jazeera. The Israeli government led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is determined to continue the ground offensive towards Gaza City, despite the massive wave of protests that has swept the country.
Thousands of citizens have taken to the streets of Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and other cities to demand a ceasefire, the return of hostages and an end to the war. But the security cabinet, after a marathon meeting held last night, has confirmed its determination to continue military operations.
The Forum of Families of Hostages and Missing Persons in Gaza has called thousands of citizens to the squares to pressure the government to accept ceasefire proposals and work towards the release of the hostages.
